I really need some practical advice. I have a daughter with a man I was not in a relationship with for very long. However I fell for him totally and he did not feel the same about me. My daughter is now 3 years old and I must say he is brilliant father, looks after her while I work part-time, she stays over two nights at his house, and he contributes money to her upkeep and has done since she was born. The problem is that I was in love with him for so long, and have slept with him even though we were not together, this hurt me more than anything. I have never slept with an ex in my life, he just seems to make me go weak at the knees. Anyway I want to move away from him and get on with my own life now, I am over the hurt, feeling good and want to co-parent without getting involved with him again. It seems that every time I try to move on he is back around buying me flowers or giving me extra money. But he does not want a real relationship with me.

My mother has terminal brain cancer. I’m selling my house and moving into a new one. It seems that each day I just barely make it through, any suggestions on how I can find balance when two very stressful events are happening at once?

My biggest challenge is needing my parents help. I never got married in the first place so the divorce part is completely irrelevant to me. Although I’m a working professional, I work as a nurse and my hours and schedule is erratic and crazy. My parents end up putting my son to bed and taking him to daycare. I feel I haven’t figured out how to balance my work and parenting life if I need my parents help so much.

Throughout my marriage and probably before that–I’ve been insecure about my body and expressing my sexuality. I want to change this, can you help?

I’ve always appreciated and taken lots of advice from my mother. Right now we aren’t exactly agreeing on my post divorce decisions. I want to change this pattern, of feeling like I have to do everything she says, yet I don’t want to hurt my mom.

I’ve fallen in love with someone, but I’m starting to feel like he is listening to me less than in the beginning. one of the reasons my marriage failed was because I felt my husband had no interest in my life and that most of our conversations were focused on him and his interests. I’m starting to think, now, that this relationship is going in a similar direction and that it might be something I’m doing wrong.

I read your book, The Courage to Love Again, and just wanted to say I liked your concept of seeing dates as a way to practice being yourself. You also talked about not being caught up in whether the person liked you or not, but rather to eperiment with all your new adult skills you’ve gained since your marriage. Can you explain that a bit more?
