Summer Fun on a Budget

Financial planner Jennifer Maier talks about having a life plan that includes a list of what is most important to you. A budget is created based on this list. For summer fun, brainstorm as a family all that you might like to do. Talk about what it is you like or would look forward to with each. If it’s too expensive think of something that might be similar–if you can’t make it all the way to the ocean is there a lake or pool available? Other great ideas include a gift list and how to have guilt free shopping. Visit Jennifer Maier’s website and sign up for her  free newsletter.

Raising Kids with Disabilities

No matter what level of your child’s disability, there is more stress in the family, it takes more energy, more time and more self education than raising a normal child—which is hard in itself. Add to that, the fact that instead of having a tag team, where the mom gets a break once in a while, while dad takes over—in general, single moms don’t have an adult in the home to give them a break when needed.

In this episode, we decided to focus on the heart of the matter—what kind of practical things you can do that might make your life easier at the same time building your child’s self esteem. The discussion is divided into three sections. How the disability affects the family, how it affects your child and how it affects you.
